The Pitirre birds of Puerto Rico arrived a few weeks ago and built a nest on a pole right above my apartment’s generator, my garbage cans, and the recycling. Life has not been the same since they showed up.
There *is* a difference between them and you D - a huge difference. You clearly have great love, care and respect for your adopted home, and for the people of PR. They don't.
I feel you. I’m retired on the Island 30 years ago. Grew up in Brooklyn. I love the Pitirres. I’ve observed several generations of them breeding on my piece of the rock. They are aggressive. I also have Venezuelan Troupe birds who compete with Pitirres, ofttimes forcing them out to use the nest. Very territorial birds. I’ve learned to imitate their song. They stopped attacking me guess they realize I’m friend not foe. I love that I give them a safe place. I also have many Changos and Pigeon that we feed provide a constant water supply and a bathing space. They fly freely. My own avery. Thank you for Taking care of them and respect their space. Blessings
